Weber State Football

We bought six season tickets to Weber State Football this season.  We picked a bad year.  The poor 'Cats are 0-4 and not looking good at all.  It is still a fun family night out.  I guess one good thing is that you can pretty much choose your seats.  There are plenty of open ones!

BYU vs Boise State

 Brian, our employee in Boise, and my friend, is a huge BSU fan.  He has all the BSU gear you can think of, including a van.  Dan and I got up to Boise about 5 pm on  Thursday, September 20th and met up with Brian and his wife Jan at the stadium.  They had some great food ready for us and we tailgated with them until game time.

 Nice van huh!  Brian takes his football very seriously.  We spent the night at Jan and Brian's.  It was very nice of them to put us up for the night.

 BSU just added about 15,000 seats to their stadium so now they sit about  38,000.  It was, without doubt, the noisiest stadium I have ever been to.  They were very raucous, but fun to tease and joke with.  We had a lot of give and take with the fans all night long.  Seriously though, that place was seriously noisy.

The outcome of the game was not what I had hoped for, but we had a blast anyway.  Too bad Bronco Mendenhall is a moron, and went for a 2 point conversion instead of tying the game.  BYU had all of the momentum and would have won.

Kanyon's 12th Birthday

 Wow!  We have a 12 year old!  September was a great month for Kanyon.  He turned 12, was ordained to be a Deacon, received the Aaronic Priesthood, attended the Brigham City Temple Dedication and went to the temple to do baptisms for the dead for the first time. We went to the Bountiful temple fat 6 am for his first time.  Lana went and did initiatory work and Kanyon and I went to do baptisms and confirmations.  It was soooo busy.  We got there about 10 after 6 in the morning and there were already 30 youth in the baptistry.  We still got done and had to wait for Lana for over 40 minutes.  It was amazing to see the parking lot, both the upper and lower lots, full.   He wanted to go to "Get Air", a trampoline park in Roy, with his friends for his birthday.  I caved in to peer pressure, yep, I let 12 year olds get to me.  I performed double front flips, back fulls, gainer fulls and front fulls into the foam pits.  It was fun to rub it in with those little wipper snappers.  Kanyon and his friends had a blast.

 Kanyon is really into all things Greek, so Lana made him a cake that had Happy Birthday in Greek.  She is a really nice mom.

 He received a bunch of fun things from his friends.  Cards with money, always a big hit with Kanyon, he loves money, candy and lots of toys.

 They loved the cupcakes, cake and ice cream.  Lana is an awesome cook.

Kanyon and his friends follow an online comedian.  One of the episodes they did was of a complaint company that told people to rub bacon on all the things that are broken or having problems.  So the "Rub some bacon on it" shirt was a huge hit.

 Yay!  We love basketball.

 We had all the family over that evening.  Kanyon was really spoiled.  It's really nice to have family support us and our family.

Insulation and Sheetrock

 This was the scene after Lana and I were done hanging the insulation in the basement.  We were up 'til 2 in the morning and were short 3 rolls.  I had to get up at 6 and run down to Lowe's to buy some more.  We finished up just as the sheet rockers showed up at 7.  These stacks of sheetrock were in our basement for a good four months before we finally finished the wiring and the HVAC.  It was nice to finally get all the sheetrock on the walls and out of the way.

 We kind of decided at the last minute to insulate the walls in between all bedrooms and the family room and storage room.  I had work until 7:30 then a home teaching appointment and then I had to run over to Grandma and Grandpa Spencer's to help them with a computer problem.  That is why we ended up being up so late. We were just about done with everything when I noticed that I drilled a hole and pulled wire through a board that needed sheetrock.  It is the West wall of the South East bedroom.  Thankfully Tom Hull had left his compressor and nail gun and I had bought a few extra 2 x 4's so I was able to throw up an extension on the already existing pony wall.  No one will ever even notice that it wasn't meant to be like it is.

Lana was a champ.  Without her help I never would have made it in time.  I was hanging the insulation in the North West bedroom when I realized that I hadn't removed all of the weights out of the North East bedroom.  So, long story short, I had Lana start hanging the insulation while I moved the 1250 lbs of weight.  Once I was done with the weights then I started cutting while Lana was hanging.  We moved pretty fast after that.

 I am truly grateful for all the help Trevor and Matt Aardema gave me to get this wiring and HVAC done.  I think we did a better job than the so called professionals would have done.  Everything is tight and taped off so it doesn't leak air or have problems anywhere.

This wall on the lower left hand side of the picture is where I had to adda pony wall so the wiring was out of the way of the sheetrock.  I can't believe I did that.  Thankfully it was a super easy fix.

North West Bedroom

Super Sized Closet

 This closet is 1 1/2 times larger than our master closet.  I can't believe how big it is.  Honestly, it is big enough to be a small bedroom.  I am sure one day in the future one of our children will move in hen they are building a home so it will be a nice master suite for them to move into.

I was so behind schedule that I wasn't able to get the weight bench and system out of the way so they had to sheetrock around it.  OOPS!

MAN vs MUD

 On Saturday, Sept 1st Lana and I went up to the American Heritage Ranch and participated in the MAN vs MUD competition.  It was an absolute blast.  There wasn't an inch of us that wasn't covered in mud.  The event is a 5K run with 31 obstacles mixed in to the mix.  We weren't able to take our camera with us due to the extreme conditions of the course; however, we were able to get a few shots of some of the obstacles.  Next year we will take our entire family.  They had horse rides, wagon rides and train rides free of charge for all the kids and the environment was just super fun.

 We got there a little early to register so we had time to walk around and watch others compete.  One of the funnest things was a couple that ran the race in their wedding clothes and then said "I DO" at the end of the race.  Our starting time was supposed to be at 11:20, but it was such a calm and relaxed environment that we started a little early.  They didn't even time you on the course.  We finished the entire thing in about 50 minutes.

 Lana went to the DI on Friday night and bought some cheap clothes since we figured they wouldn't be salvageable after the race.  Good thing she did.  All the clothes were ruined.  More than anything it was just a ton of fun to be together and have a great time helping eachother through the course.

 This obstacle was way harder than it looks.  You get a little comfortable then you think "oh this is pretty easy" and the next thing you know...you're swimming in ice cold spring water.  This was the midway point of the course.

 This rope wall was fun.  It was one of the longest lines we had to wait in though.  There were a few overweight folks ahead of us that slowed the group down.  They were cautious to say the least.

 This was the last obstacle before the finish slide.  As you can see from the photo, there was quite a line up here too.

 We started the race by going down some 300 feet of slide on a tube.  You got going pretty darn fast.  The tubes were mostly flat so you had to lay all the way back on the tube.  After you went down the hill the race began.  You had to run back up the hill, drop off your tube and then run about 3/4 mile to the next obstacle.

You can see how long the tube track was.  Lana and I went at the same time....I kicked her butt down the hill.  That is probably because I have a huge, fat butt.

This is the slide at the finish line.  It is on the same hill as the starting line slide, just about 100 yards away.  This slide you went down on your keister and landed in a huge mud puddle.  you can see the splash of those leaving the slide and landing in the puddle.  After the slide you had to army crawl through a mud bog and then they took your picture.  They let us take three poses.  Once they post them we will be able to download them and I will put them on the blog.

At the end of the race they had showers for you to clean off.  You could take a free ice cold shower or pay $3 for a hot shower.  We elected to take an ice cold shower.  It was a nice way to end the race.
